Post-Referendum Statement Presented to the Board on April 3, 2019

The teachers are pleased that the community passed the referendum to improve facilities at Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South. We would like to publicly thank our parents and community members who took the time to support the referendum.

At the December 17th, 2018 Board meeting, as a result of the failed November referendum, the Board made tough decisions reducing athletics, activities, and support staff to pay for our infrastructure needs. In addition, $1.2 million was cut to enforce a strict 25:1 sectioning framework, resulting in several combined classes running within a single class period and the elimination of some classes from one campus or both. This framework resulted in a reduction of student academic opportunities. As Dr. Law stated in his press release yesterday, “our community values its schools,” and in that vein, we hope the Board will reverse decisions in order to maximize BOTH academic and extracurricular opportunities for our students.
