#ApartTogether: Ms. Gallen

Because the Illinois Stay at Home Order extended through the end of the school year, many teachers were challenged with how to meaningfully say goodbye, remotely, to the students that they had formed relationships with over the course of the year.  On the last day of her 4th Period English 2 class, Ms. Nicole Gallen, Hinsdale South teacher, hosted an end-of-the-year awards celebration over Google Meet.  Ms. Gallen’s students voted for their classmates to receive creative, fun, “feel good” awards that included titles such as “Kindest Human,” “Best Sense of Humor” “Hardest Worker,” and “Most Likely to Get Ms. Gallen Off Topic.”  Ms. Gallen’s classes also reflected upon and shared what they had learned about themselves during distance learning.  Ms. Gallen’s students are lucky for the positive classroom culture – both in person and remotely – that she cultivated over the course of the school year!

During this year, we may have been apart from our students and apart from our colleagues, but we stayed together!
